Although relatively uncommon Endocrine Malignancies are
difficult to detect and cure effectively and result in about 12%
fatality.
The common Endocrine cancers are: Thyroid
Carcinoma, Parathyroid Carcinoma and Adrenal Gland Neoplasms (a
neoplasm is an abnormal growth of tissue).
Symptoms - symptoms of endocrine tumors
can result in abnormal secretion of hormones into the body as a
result there may be some drastic changes. For instance in
the rare form of adrenal cancer a condition known as Cushings
syndrome results in obesity and high blood pressure. Other
forms of the disease may result in male pattern hair growth in
females as well as breast swelling in males.
Diagnosis - Initial diagnosis is usually
in the detection of abnormal hormone levels in the blood.
Treatment - Treatment is usually in the
form of surgical removal of the tumor. Drugs and radiation
are also sometimes effective in treating the disease.
