Haematological Malignancies

       
       

 

Chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) is a term to describe an uncontrolled proliferation of bone marrow (myeloid) cells.  Approximately 15% of all leukaemias are accounted by CML.

Symptoms include:

  • excessive bruising

  • abdominal pain

  • weight loss

  • tiredness

  • gout

  • fever and sweating

Diagnosis: Blood tests are used.  These tests include checks for an abnormal increases in white blood cell count.

Treatment includes using chemotherapy such as busulphan (a type of chemo).
