Hormonal Therapy
Hormones are produced naturally by the body. These proteins are used to regulate body functions and processes. Sometimes keeping the body from producing a hormone can have an effect on the growth of cancer cells. Since the hormone may stimulate growth of the cancer, treating the gland that produces the hormone or surgically removing it - can treat the cancer. In other cases hormones have the opposite effect, and may cause the cancer cells to grow slowly or even kills the cells out right.
Your physician may proscribe tests to determine if the cancer cells have particular receptors on them that correspond to hormones. From there a treatment program may be created.
