Prevention begins with the concept of self-preservation.  Only you can truly make a difference in your health.  Good health begins with proper diet, exercise and a conscience effort to limit exposure to:

  • pollutants

  • pesticides

  • tobacco smoke

  • chemical additives

KEEP A JOURNAL

Many people who decide to keep a journal of their everyday activities are surprised to find out exactly how many cancer-inducing agents they come in whether voluntary or involuntary.  Awareness is the first step to mitigating exposure.  Simply knowing how much carcinogens you come in contact with can sometimes spark a subconscious fight towards prevention.

Try the following:

  1. Purchase a spiral notebook, preferably something that is easy to carry.

  2. At the beginning of each day write the date on the top of a clean page.

  3. Write down the topic heading "Expectation".  Underneath the title quickly brainstorm the events, places or activities that you predict will expose you to carcinogens.  For instance: " - Traffic, exhaust fumes."  Don't spend too much time on the details.

  4. Next you will keep a time log of all activities.  Ideally you can log every event as it happens - but this exercise is not intended to be a chore - instead try two hour increments.  "8AM, 10AM, Noon, etc).  Underneath write down all your potential "exposures" for the last two hours.

  5. Once a week go back and review

You will find it alarming - just how much our bodies endure during the course of a day.  Knowledge is the first step to avoiding situations.
