Radiation Therapy
Radiation Therapy is the treatment of cancer cells by exposing them to radiation. Radiation can come from a number of sources like an x-ray generator, or even from radioactive "seeds" placed in the vicinity of the cancer.
Radiation is effective for kills cancer cells because the effects of the radiation is most pronounced in cells that are actively dividing (like cancer cells).
In recent years visualization methods have improved to the point where we can construct 3-dimensional views of the cancer in situ. Likewise methods have been devised to minimize the damage to healthy non-cancerous cells while focusing the radiation on the cancer cells.
